The Truth Barrier Re-Publishes here an article from June 2012 examining the politics and science of a ubiquitous neuro-toxin.
“These are the worst of times, as mankind endures a plague whose point of origin distinctly coincides with the Food and Drug Administration’s 1981 approval of aspartame—an artificial sweetener containing methanol, which is metabolized into deadly formaldehyde within the brain and sinew of all who consume it. I am a food scientist who warned thirty years ago in the scientific literature of the hazards we court by adding large amounts of methanol to our food supply.”

First, here is the long repressed 1970s FDA memo I received last night from somebody who is very well informed but keeps his identity anonymous for professional reasons, (so I can’t credit him.) It took over 30 years to get it unearthed; It reveals the hidden and very damning data on Aspartame and birth defects.
I went on to the website of Professor Monte, www.whilesciencesleeps.com, and watched his entire video presentation on his unifying theory of the possible chemical trigger for many so-called Diseases of Civilization, (DOCs) including Alzheimer’s Disease, Breast Cancer, MS, and Autism. (As well as many more.) Dr. Monte–a retired Professor of Food Science, and Whistleblower, fingers the–to humans only–highly highly toxic methanol as a probable cause not of one illness but of many.
He writes on his site:
“Something very wrong is going on, something that is killing good people and causing untold suffering to families and communities around the world. Never has such a high percentage of us been afflicted with so many tragic and wasting illnesses.
In the past thirty years, a group of diseases has reached epidemic proportions in the United States and many other countries. These afflictions, often collectively referred to as diseases of civilization (DOC), include multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, breast cancer, lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, melanoma, and autism, a once rare birth defect. Because the incidence of these diseases has increased gradually over three decades, we are inclined to accept this as a natural, if unfortunate, part of modern life. But such a lethal trend is not natural; the changes that we have witnessed over the last generation are unprecedented in the history of medical science.
French physician Stanislaw Tanchou, the first to observe that cancer was rarely found in hunter-gatherer populations, is credited with coining the term “diseases of civilization” in a paper presented to the Paris Medical Society in 1843. His descriptive term survives to this day because certain diseases have still not been proven to have existed before the “civilized” era, and these conditions continue to be largely absent in modern hunter-gatherer societies.
These are the worst of times, as mankind endures a plague whose point of origin distinctly coincides with the Food and Drug Administration’s 1981 approval of aspartame—an artificial sweetener containing methanol, which is metabolized into deadly formaldehyde within the brain and sinew of all who consume it. I am a food scientist who warned thirty years ago in the scientific literature of the hazards we court by adding large amounts of methanol to our food supply.[#1] I am a professor who taught my students of these dangers.
I am an activist who took the FDA to the Supreme Court in an effort to compel it to carry out its mandate and obligation to protect the public. I am still waging this battle and will continue to fight until the salient and suppressed facts have been revealed. To date, I have had little success in engaging the medical community, despite having presented at numerous professional meetings and published on this subject. I have even invented and received patents on novel means of addressing the problem – all to little avail, and with vexingly little explanation or substantive refutation of my central claim that dietary methanol may be the root cause of these and possibly other diseases.
The Book takes the reader where I have been over the last twenty five years and teaches what I have learned in plain English so that they will be able to make their own decisions and food choices.
The methanol contained in the diet soda produced in many countries of the world is dangerous. It comes from the artificial sweetener Aspartame. There is no safe level of consumption of methanol as there are with other less poisonous substances that can occasionally find their way into our foods.”
Elsewhere on the site, he writes:
“Methanol is particularly dangerous to humans, more so than any other animal.
When humans consume low doses of methanol it is metabolized directly into formaldehyde which is a cancer producing agent of the same level of danger as asbestos and plutonium. This conversion does not all happen in the Liver, a common misconception, but also in the brain and a woman’s breast. It is my belief that diet soda has contributed to the rise of breast cancer and multiple sclerosis that has been preceded by the use of Aspartame as a food ingredient in every country that has allowed its use.”
“The quest for a small molecule as an etiological cause of the diseases of civilization has always ignored one of its smallest and most stealthy agents: methanol—a molecule capable of effortless perivascular access. A rare component of unprocessed food, methanol has increased incrementally in the human diet since the advent of commercialized canning in the 1800s and most recently due to the popularity of products sweetened with aspartame. Although the extreme sensitivity of humans to methanol is well established, its conversion to formaldehyde in situ within the vessels of the brain and elsewhere is undetectable, making methanol-placed formaldehyde a paradigm of toxicity that is as compelling in theory as it is difficult in practice to study.
The methanol toxicity literature of the last forty years has been overwhelmingly in favor of a benign role for environmental dosages of methanol. Drawing on scant evidence from arguably inadequate animal models, this research denies any significant link to formaldehyde, pointing instead to a considerably less toxic and considerably more detectable secondary metabolite—formate. Not insignificantly, much of the funding for such studies comes from sources with a vested interest in maintaining public confidence in the dietary safety of methanol. The fact remains, however, that environmental methanol in humans allows formaldehyde greater access to regions of the body prone to disease, exposing vulnerable protein and DNA to methylation and other modifications capable of inducing carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, teratogenicity, and direct macrophage phagocytosis. Given its many harmful effects, the potentially critical role of dietary methanol in the increasing incidence of diseases of civilization needs to be reexamined.”
I suggest you watch his presentation from start to finish. You will be amazed and disturbed.
For me it was an “aha” moment. I have always seen it as going without saying that “autism” has a chemical and/or environmental cause, but which toxin it might be has remained unclear to me. Why has the vaccination awareness community focused exclusively on thimerisol/mercury? What if it’s something else? This would validate the ad nauseum repeated claim that thimerisol has been tried and cleared. The fact that autism begins in history at the exact clock strike of the introduction of Aspartame into the food supply, got my attention. The fact that the autism (as well as all other DOCs) graphs continue to spike precisely along with the next disaster–the release of Aspartame, a very dangerous neurotoxin/excitotoxin, into drinking sodas, adds heft to the case. But here is what I would like to ask Dr. Monte: Most mothers with “autistic” children report that their babies were healthy until they crossed a certain threshold of vaccination shots. Hence, we are not dealing with gestational toxicity due to Aspartame exposure, mostly. (Those babies whose mother did drink vast quantities of diet soda would have died as early fetuses or, if they survived, been born with such severe brain defects that they lived only a few weeks, as in the case of one baby chronicled in his lecture.*)
So–the disaster years are 1981 and 1983, respectively. That’s when the “autism” epidemic begins. Also in this exact time frame, teen suicides shot up. Aspartame/Methanol causes a brain malfunction called Anhedonia, which is the total loss of the capacity to perceive pleasure. (I think personally, that describes the “average American.”)
Diet Soda is the single most dangerous thing you can ingest from a grocery store. But they put it in hundreds of foods, not only drinking soda.
Dr. Monte points out that in one study a human baby died from a single swab on the arm of methanol. It takes 100 times more Ethanol to kill a rat or a monkey than it takes to kill a human. Hence–all animal studies claiming it to be “safe” are false.
Formaldehyde is the first metabolite of methanol. I looked up the ingredients in childhood vaccinations. Yes, they have largely removed thimerisol, (or so they claim anyhow,) but formaldehyde remains a consistent ingredient in vaccines. Might this be where we should be looking? Also, I wonder what they swab the babies with before they inject them. What is in that? Is there Ethanol or Methyl Alcohol in it?
My gut tells me this man may be holding the “missing piece” to so many chronic and debilitating illnesses of idiopathic origin, most urgently “autism.”
* To his credit, Professor Monte can’t tell the story of this severely brain damaged baby without crying, for which he apologizes. Isn’t it fascinating how we apologize always, for having human responses, and especially for crying, which in this society is seen as a failure of some kind. Without fail, a person says: “I am sorry I am crying.” And I always want to say: “Don’t be.”
